Has it really been a year already? It only seemed like the last one just finished, when I started nailing the new local talent in search for this years line up.
I think this is the strongest line up since it started – and all those wonderful bands who have passed through this very showcase are still about, filling venues and aren’t even in this years event. Proof of our strong local scene.
Anyway, heres this years confirmed line up…
Im also a bit gutted for following bands couldn’t make this years event, Hooray For Dorothy, The Everyday Ghosts, Lady Cardigan, Opened assault and Motif.
The rules are as follows…
One Act from each heat into the final, unless we continue to get applicants, where we will do two semis, and two acts from each heat will go to a semi. Where one-act of each will go through to the final + 1 other and one from the “acoustic heat”
The solo / acoustic heat will go straight into the final, due to the odd number of heats, and to guarantee a soloist in the final – hence why they are all on the same heat!
Voting works like this – 1 vote per person, the highest voted band wins. This has worked well in the past two years, as lots of people have turned up to watch the bands, and aren’t necessarily favouring any one band. Its the fairest way!
Final is Friday June 18th – which doesn’t clash with Download. The first year so far!
The gigs are all ALL AGE, doors 4-7pm, and cost £1 entry – to cover our hire / PA and printing costs. Any extra cash goes into printing full colour flyers for the final – you may remember last years wonderful flyer – designed by Oliver Corbett? If not It’s on our facebook.
This years finalists are none other than the southwest’s finest blues / grunge rock due – Le Chat Noir (THEY HAVE SUPPORTED NICK OLIVERI, MOTORHEAD AND GAZILLIONS OTHERS!!!)
Heres their blog…
Le Chat Noir are hard-rockin’ Transatlantic duo who formed in 2006 after drummer Eileen Spruce moved to England from her native Los Angeles.
They’ve performed 300 gigs in 8 countries, their full throttle live performances leaving stages soaked with sweat and blood and littered with broken drumsticks, playing with acts such as Motorhead, Nick Oliveri, The Datsuns, The Sonics, MC5, Saxon and Nine Black Alps.
Their debut album was voted Playmusic Magazine’s Best Unsigned Recording of 2006 and quickly sold out. 2007’s Deadwood also sold out. A third album, Postcards From The Dark Highway, was released in 2009.
