Ben Marwood has just released his début album, via Xtra Mile Records (home of Xtra Mile is the home of Frank Turner, Dive Dive, Reuben, Beans on Toast and a whole lot more) and titled “Outside There’s a Curse”.
Ben first played for me / Sheer wayyyy back in 2005, on what was only our 6th or 7th gig. He has since clocked up 11 appearances for Sheer, despite not playing at all in 2007! I’ve had the pleasure of hosting Ben with supports for Fickle Public, Frank Turner, Jetplane Landing, as well as Ben’s UK tours with Oxygen Thief and Jim Locky.
It’s been amazing to watch Ben’s accent through various stages, with tours, self releases and festival appearances all under his belt, to finally cap it all off with a proper record out there is just smashing!
The record itself is an impressive 10 track wander through tales of love, loss and death. He chucks in a swipe at Avril Lavigne for good measure and covers “District Sleeps Alone Tonight” by The Postal Service. If you have caught him live recently his set has pretty much featured the album, so should be familiar even on first listen. Personal highlight is Oh My Days or “Tell Avril Lavigne I never Wanted to be Her stupid Boyfriend Anyway”
I would also like to thank Ben personally for the thanks I received in the sleeve notes, it’s a little thing like that which makes all the long nights and stressful hours promoting all worth while. Big big love!
