We are delighted to confirm and announce our first event at Trowbridge Arts Centre, coming from Chris T-T. Were he a goal keeper, we’d be saying he was a “safe pair of hands”. Always a delight to work with and always knocking a crowd for 6, it’ll be a lovely way to start our work in Trowbridge, and celebrating his 20 years in the business.
SO, CHRIS T-T is our protagonist for the evening. A vaudeville, alt-folk hero and friend. Emerging from roots in late 1990s lo-fi and London-centric psych-folk, Chris T-T first gained acclaim for sarcastic, city-obsessed urban alt/folk music, including attacks on mainstream artists with songs such as Dreaming Of Injured Popstars and minor hit Eminem Is Gay. Later he developed into an influential figure of UK song, straddling punk, psych-pop and English folk, inspiring a generation of successful home-grown artists. (Frank Turner, Ben Marwood et al)
Restlessly mobile, he has been lauded for 2 decades as one of the finest singer-songwriters the UK has produced, gaining critical acclaim & performing the biggest stages around the world, including Glastonbury, the British Olympics in 2012 and the Plinth in Trafalgar Square.
Chris has been a piano accompanist for Tom Robinson, Frank Turner and Jim Bob (Carter USM) and in 2011 took a one-man show of A.A. Milne’s 1920s children’s poetry to Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Active since 1997, this event will celebrate Chris’s 20 years in music, clocking up over 2,200 gigs along the way, drawing from his 10 studio albums and wider catalogue including 7″ vinyl only singles, b-sides, album tracks and his AA Milne work. For his dedicated fans, this is a simply not-to-be-missed event as all of this will be set on the Arts Centre’s baby-grand piano, located in the foyer.
Chris is also a popular public speaker, having spoke at TEDx, Louder Than Words, Great Escape Convention, SOAS, Boring Conference, Brighton Digital Festival, Interrogate! at Dartington Hall, AIM Music Connect, Leeds Uni, Falmouth Uni, Middlesex Uni and many others and is a contributor to publications such as The Morning Star (Sheffield) the NME, Louder Than War and was even the “blogger in residence” at Brighton’s Royal Pavillion Museum.
This gig precedes our residency at Trowbridge Arts starting starting in September, please follow Sheer Music on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to be first with the announcements. This gig is also our first show in Trowbridge since the incredibly successful Dave McPherson (InMe) gig at the Village Pump in 2015(?).
Tickets £8 adv. £10 otd. This is an all age show, but be warned there *may* be some mild language and definitely some challenging subjects.
