Salute The Magpie + Homeland offer new music

Wiltshire based acts, Salute The Magpie and Homeland have both released new music this week.

In case you missed it, indie types, Salute The Magpie released their 2nd single / ep Eddy’s Midnight Tale on Saturday, a review of it can be found on the reviews tab, to your right…>.

The EP wastes no time in reintroducing us to the band, with the distinctive dulcet voice of Tom England, but have some what tech’ed up their guitars to XX or Foals levels, a slightly more challenging direction, which is excellent. Listen below.

Devizes post-hardcore 5 piece HOMELAND, released set favourite TIMES (I’m So Scared Of Finding Home), via their Youtube account, and I’m pleased to say they very kindly included me in their art work, aww. ❤

Salute The Magpie unveil stonking new tune.

Salute The Magpie keep going from strength to strength, as it seems nothing is standing in their way right now.  Off the back of a hugely successful show for Club Fandango at London’s prestigious Bull And Gate venue, the band have recorded the new song, WILD – which was given it’s first airing at Club Revolver in Bath’s Porter venue.

The song, recorded at Bath university was mixed and engineered by guitarist, Jack Roberts, this tune WILD smashes the opposition and really sets out the bands stall, as the finest indie band in the area.  It also shows off Jack’s engineering ability.

The band will be announcing new shows very soon, keep an eye on their Facebook for more info.

Salute The Magpie unveil new live recording…

After their superb show at The Fleece, in Bristol – Salute The Magpie have released a live recording of the début performance of new song “Wild”

The song is perfect summer pop, less in the vein of their previous Joy Division bothering sound and more surf rock, going against the grain of the actual, erm, Season… As we head into Winter, I still declare it, Salute The Summer, and on this new evidence the boys have once again smashed it.

Get it while it’s hot…

Salute The Magpie mini-tour

Another success story waiting in the wings for Devizes is the incredibly self motivated, Salute The Magpie. Earlier this year I declared it “Salute The Summer” as they racked up some fantastic performances in Devizes at the Queens Jubilee on the Green, opening for Bite The Buffalo at The Bell, a Wiltshire Introducing performance and a headline slot at The Lamb, the summer has been theirs.

The band managed to build momentum, despite not having an official release show for their début self titled EP, available in digital and physical format, which came with praise from Frank Turner & Topper Headon, and now have a mini tour on their hands. Get down to a show while you can, and watch the band continue to grow as they hit University!

Now the band also have a possibly appearance at Strummerville on the cards, I would say their future is pretty exciting.

Animal themed gig, this FRIDAY

Without actually even realising it until it was pointed out to me, this Friday I have managed to put together a Zoo of a bill for your aural pleasure!

Bath based (ex-Devizes!) classic rock n’ roll duo, BITE THE BUFFALO return to town for only their second show here, after successfully signing to BA1 records, release a stone wall classic EP “Bromigos”, playing the UK’s most Eco-Friendly festival “Penny Farthing” with Tall Ships (where the electricity is generated by the audience on push bikes!) and lining up a whole European tour for the Autumn – there isn’t anything related to the band which isn’t cool!

The Goneos brothers have been long friends of Sheer, since we gave them their first shows as cRimson, Third Idea and I Am Bodhi, it seems the band have finally found their feet, their sound and their ability to make an impression in our hearts and in our minds. To say I’m proud and excited about Fridays show is a massive, Massive understatement.

Equally as happy, I am excited to let lose, the “coming along nicely” and “quickly maturing”, SALUTE THE MAGPIE – who will deliver their tightest and best set to date. After releasing new demo’s on their soundcloud, the excellently titled “Cairo Car Chase” is hinting at all the right sounds, with a more technical approach more akin to Foals than the previous sound of Fratellis.

Delighted I am, that I’ve invited Salute to perform at the Jubilee event on the Green in Devizes on Sunday June 2nd, and then headline the local bands stage at Rowdy Fest on July 21st.

New openers for the night are the Devizes based, classic rock vibe of Led Zepplin infused jams, SENOR SCORPION, who have been honing their craft at The Warehouse Studio’s on Hopton Industrial Estate. It’s by no coincidence that the band are as good as they are, despite playing very few shows, because of their commitment to rehearsals in a top quality venue.

We’re expecting this to be one super night, with the handsome duo up top, and then two very well supported local bands really finalising a bill of quality music, so do get down to catch the openers, and not to miss a second of this event.

8pm DOORS

8.45 – 9.15 – Senor Scorpion
9.30 – 10 – Salute The Magpie
10.15 – 11 – Bite The Buffalo

Salute The Summer!

I have inadvertently made this summer all about Salute The Magpie, well locally at any rate. The Wiltshire wide 5 piece, including Rhys Jones over in Malmesbury, Jack Roberts of Melksham, Tom England over in Frome along with Ellis Capon and Danny Charity in Lavington have secured a number of great shows in and around the area and manage not to over do it in the process.

Recent recordings on their soundcloud, including the awesomely titled “Cairo Car Chase” are hinting at huge leaps forward in their sound, which is not to say there was anything wrong with their sound – just that this is really good music!

That, on top of their recent BBC Wiltshire Introducing session with Marilliam back in March along with an impending Fantasy Radio session too, their certain popularity at the end of summer is nothing sort of fantastic.

You can catch 3 really high profile shows in May, June and July starting with their support slot of Bath’s Bite The Buffalo on Friday May 11th at The Bell By The Green, with some early bird tickets available at wegottickets.com.

Little under a month later, the band step on to the green on Sunday June 3rd, as part of Devizes Town Council’s Jubilee weekend extravaganza, where they will play a half hour set on a trailer with an audience expected to be over 400 people and finally being the cream of the current local crop, when they headline the local bands stage at Rowdy Rocks Festival on Saturday July 21st at Rowdeford School.

Phew!
